If there's one thing gamers love, it's top 10 lists. I started with the original Xbox, and now I'm moving on to the GameCube. Like Microsoft's black beast, the GameCube is well and truly "dead". So, having tried any and everything that caught my eye and with no new games coming down the pipe, this is my definitive list of personal picks.
I don't usually do straight PR, but this game caught my eye for obvious reasons... It's not everyday you see a game featuring a female character trying to net a boyfriend through the art of ballroom seduction.
Microsoft's done it to me again. I got hit with the Red Rings of Death and went through the whole repair process, getting knocked out of action for about a month.
Anyone that knows me knows that I rarely play a game twice. If it's got a story mode (and I love them that do) regardless of how much I enjoyed it, chances are that it’ll never enter my console again once the credits roll. A large part of the fun I get from games is the discovery of what's next, and once I already know, it just doesn't have the same thrill.
I think that part of growing older is knowing that there's a time and place for escapism (e.g., games, movies, TV, etc.) and that there's a time for human connection without the interference and distraction of technology. I love playing games, but I don't want them to permeate my life, mentally or physically.
Next week I'll be leaving the Portland area and moving to Seattle. With the demands of looking for jobs, going to interviews, finding a place to live, and organizing the move, I haven't had much time for videogames. Nevertheless, I thought I would take a moment to remind myself of how cool it is to be moving to one of the best videogame cities in the world.
I consider the big black beast to be a truly "dead" system—there sure aren't any more games coming down the pipe for it, and I've had ample opportunity to track down and try every game for the system that caught my eye. My Xbox has been packed up and in storage for months, and I'm feeling pretty good about calling this my definitive list.
